Powerpack solar review
Review of the xantrex xpower powerpack solar. The power pack solar is a mobile power pack that houses both ac and dc power outlets and features a 5 watt solar panel for green recharging. The unit is very well made and is slim enough to fit away in a corner or closet when not in use. The powerpack solar packs many high end features like, a 400 watt power inverter, 12 volt dc out, usb out and very bright led lights. At the heart of the powerpack solar is the 10 amp hour 12 volt sealed lead acid battery, which is good enough to provide a few hours of power to laptops, tv’s and other ac appliances. The battery can go longer when paired with low powered ac devices, like alarm systems and wireless routers. The 10 amp hour battery really shines when it comes to dc appliances. I was able to run a small 10 watt (0.8 amp) dc fan for well over 11 hours and still had usable power left in the powerpack. This means in an emergency, you would most likely want to use the dc ports and the built in led lights for many hours of use. I have used and played around with my powerpack solar for well over a month before I posted the review and have had noting less than an wonderful experience. The powerpack solar has served me well and was almost used in a power outage (too bad the outage lasted only 30 seconds). From my experience with other xantrex products and other mobile powerpacks in the past, I expect this unit to give me years of service before needing a replacement battery (5 years on average). One thing I am happy about is that xantrex offers a flat rate unit repair if your product is out of warranty and in some cases offers a reduced equipment cost if your out of warranty equipment needs replacement. I hope not to have to experience an emergency situation, but if the time and need comes, I know I have something that I can really depend on. Natural light helps keep our bodies in tune with the external cycle of day and night, the so-called circadian system, and therefore with the world around us. For many, sunlight is a cue to wake, while darkness leads us toward sleep.
It is important, then, that the buildings we inhabit take full advantage of daylight — both to keep human occupants comfortable and healthy, and also to optimize energy efficiency.
For the third event in the series on light, swissnex San Francisco brings Jean-Louis Scartezzini and Mirjam Münch, from the Solar Energy and Building Physics Laboratory at EPFL, to present their experiences with daylighting research and technology. Their work illustrates possible integration steps toward optimized “Day and Night” lighting environments with respect to energy consumption and human health.
Marilyne Andersen, associate professor in the Building Technology Program of MIT’s Department of Architecture and head of the Daylighting Lab, also joins the discussion with an overview of her efforts to better integrate energy-efficiency and human-responsiveness to daylighting into architecture and design. – Swissnex San Francisco
Mirjam Münch joined the Solar Energy and Building Physics Laboratory at EPFL, in Switzerland, as a post-doctoral research fellow in 2009 to help bridge the fields of architecture and building science with those of chronobiology and circadian rhythms. She studies the effects of daylight on humans and searches for new ways to integrate this knowledge in applied settings help optimize light conditions in the workplace and at home.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from ETH Zurich, in Switzerland, and a master’s degree from the University of Zurich. She studied neurobiology at the University of Basel, investigating the circadian and homeostatic effects of age and monochromatic light on human sleep, then moved to the Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, where she was further trained in sleep research and chronobiology.

LIGHT DIRECTION (quick tip #11) light shields
here’s a update/modification to the solar lights. its enabling you to direct the light from the solar light.this is for the lights you might have that doesnt do it already. just take a piece of a can, and tape it or strap/zipper tie it to the solar light.where only half the light is exposed.you can use plain tape if you want to block the light,it just wont have a reflective surface like the can will.becareful so you dont cut yourself on the can.this will allow you to direct the light to a certain area instead of going out in all directions.it should magnify the light a lil more also.for more info on these lights,check out the installing electricity video.again these are the cheap lights im using,$3.00 each. ive got 9 on the pen and at 75 yards i can make out the feeder and if something is in the pen through the scope.this is for some hunting that doesnt have night vision and dont want to use up you battery on your spot light,r you just dont want to constantly turn your light on to check to see if something is in the pen that sets far out. we have more lights and set ups we’re putting together and testing and we’ll have those out at a later time.thx for watch’n and stay tuned for more BHC vids to come!!thx again!!
