Given that most industries even now consume a lot of energy, and industry is growing all the time, the damaging impact on the environment is also increasing. Most production facilities still are emitting dangerous chemicals that are not good for mother nature, and with the increase in population, many more gadgets are being used that also require a lot of energy to be used. The big question will be can anything be done to help, not only the economy, but also the environment? Modern man worships at the altar of high technologies, but hi-tech improvements are not necessarily good for the environment, like when even more energy is used as a result. Man is innovative, and regularly finds brand new applications for old resources, which on it’s own is admirable, but it is usually without regard for the effect it has on the environment. 

There might be a time coming when actually adjusting to alternative energy sources won’t work because it will be way too late. It has been determined through environmental agency research that our oil reserves are going to be eliminated in some four decades if we keep consuming oil at the current rate. There has been too much dependence by men and women on working with natural energy sources, and what are these people planning to do when they are gone. Imagine that there is no more fuel, and what that spells for the transportation industry and its customers. Success will probably come to mean survival if trade is actually damaged badly, with production facilities closing and economic development slowing right down.  The worst case scenario is really gloomy if nothing is done about it, and with men and women believing that natural resources will never run out, it is hard to say what’s going to happen. If we want to change the way matters are heading, we need to get really serious about reducing our consumption of existing resources. Alternative energy resources need to be cost-effective, and popular enough that men and women will actually use them. Individuals are quite good at making adjustments when it is essential, but until then it is way too easy to sit back and wait around. 

Now, although there is still time to take action, men and women need to start taking conservation seriously. Consider how much fuel could be saved just by taking walks occasionally, or carpooling, or taking public transportation, but how many men and women are willing to do it, especially if these people really don’t think things tend to be that bad.

Connected to 2 Xrantex portable power packs (65ah batteries and 1500w inverter in each pack), on a good wind day will charge the batteries from dead in less than 12hrs, usually takes 2-3 days in average winds. I have it mounted on a 27′ pole with #10awg wire to the base where the power packs are located. The system runs my 16 – 11 volt deck lights, 2 strings of 100 LCD patio lights for a few hours at night, electronic bug zapper all day, charges all my rechargable tools, flashlights, camera batteries and has lots of power left available for runing small tools like my drill and weed wacker when needed.

About the Solar Death Ray:
The Solar Death Ray is made of 112 mirrors mounted on a platform 4 feet
wide and 6 feet tall. Each mirror is a square roughly 3.5 inches on edge. All
these mirrors focus the sun to a single spot 5 feet, 6 inches from the mirror
platform. A wooden fork extends from the mirror base to the area near the
focus and serves as a mounting point for Solar Death Ray targets. The
mirror platform is mounted to the support frame on a pivot that allows the
platform to be angled. The whole system is mounted on a set of wheels.
Some Science:
The Solar Death Ray works by reflecting the light of the sun from 112
mirrors onto a single spot. Anything in the spot (the target) starts to get
hot. The target will continue to get hot until it reaches an equilibrium
temperature. When the equilibrium temperature is reached, the object is
reemitting as much light as it is absorbing. The re-emitted light is infrared
light, not the visible light from the sun. The infrared light is emitted simply
because the target is hot. The hotter the target, the more infrared light is
emitted. There are other details to this effect that Im neglecting, but you
can check that out for yourself by looking up Black Body Radiation.

The equilibrium temperature is determined (approximately) by how much
of the light is absorbed by the object and how much is reflected. A dark-
colored object absorbs more light than a light-colored object. For
example, a black piece of paper absorbs more light than a white piece of
paper. This will cause a black piece of paper to get MUCH hotter than a
white piece of paper when placed in the Solar Death Ray.

Using some basic principles of Black Body Radiation, I estimate that the
Solar Death Ray can heat things up to between 500-600 degrees Celsius
(930-1100 degrees Fahrenheit) under good conditions. This assumes that
heat is not lost due to conduction and convection of the air around the
target, which is unlikely. As a check, paper will ignite at around 230
degrees Celsius (450 degrees Fahrenheit). Because I can routinely ignite
paper with the Solar Death Ray, I know it can heat things to at least this
temperature. The output power of the Solar Death Ray is roughly 1,000
Watts, meaning that 1,000 Watts of power can be deposited onto a
target. The time it takes to heat the target can be estimated if you know
the Heat Capacity of the target.
