Joule Thief (3 Light test) 019
Joule Thief Test to check the differences between a 3v incandescent bulb an Led and a Joule Thief Based LED..
The incandescent bulb sucked.
The LED just on Normal worked OK and would easily out shine the incandescent bulb.
But the Joule thief circuit Was Brighter and I am guessing will last much longer.
They all had fresh batteries put in them at the start of the test and I might just leave them running to see for myself which is best. I will post the results if I do.

What many dont know …
What many dont know,,and this is not a bash on the economy or anything. But things are made intentionally to consume or use a certain amount of energy. This is to keep the household power uses set so to speak to a minimum of usage. Thats economy for you. So many things could be made to use way less power if they were made differently, but thats life I guess. Just thought I would put that out there for those that did not know!

I’ve done lots of …
I’ve done lots of those joule thief to many i guess but still i like the way they work and how simple they are. Not sure if you know it but the bigger you “power” wire is the more amp you will get back of course will increase the input slightly less turn you make higher frequency and higher amp too and vice versa. Also found some nice simple schematic on the net that add small .01uF cap to add more power.

i agree there are many useful applications of the Joule Thief. I can light LEDS, Fluoros, CFLS and charge batteries for much less energy than conventional circuits.

I bet you could get the rest of the parts easy Ill give you the resistor but all you need is a 1:1 transformer, an LED and a transistor….
